UNDERSTAND THE CALCULATION

How to use TDS Calculator

Select a payment category to check its rate, threshold and PAN treatment.

Inputs and definitions

Payment category and date, recipient status, aggregate payments, PAN conditions and any supported treaty documentation.

Method and formula

Test the relevant threshold and applicability conditions, then apply the supported withholding rate to the relevant base. Salary follows its separate annual-tax approach.

Illustrative example

For a purely illustrative eligible base of ₹50,000 and confirmed rate of 10%, withholding is ₹5,000. This example does not establish the rate or threshold for any payment category.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you use the result.

Is TDS my final income-tax liability?

Usually not. TDS is withholding credited against the final liability, subject to the relevant rules. The recipient still needs an annual computation and credit reconciliation.

Does crossing a threshold always mean tax on only the excess?

No. The base and threshold mechanism differ by payment category. Use the category-specific result and its conditions instead of subtracting a threshold from every payment.

What if PAN, residency or the payment date changes?

Recalculate with the correct facts. Higher-rate rules, non-resident provisions, treaty conditions and changes effective during a year can affect the result; do not reuse a rate from an unrelated payment.

Read these answers with the selected period, calculation scope and official sources below.

Scope and limitations

Resident categories, salary withholding and supported nonresident domestic or verified treaty routes. Confirm payer, payee, period, documentation and aggregation before using the rate.

These examples explain the method. The interactive result depends on the selected facts and period, and is not a filing or an eligibility confirmation.
